The Barry County Register of Deeds is a constitutional office established in 1835 when the county was organized. The Tapestry system provides online access to property records with index data going back to October 10, 1985, and images available from January 1, 1892. This combination of deep historical images and index data makes it one of the more comprehensive online property record systems in west Michigan. Property records before 1892 exist in physical books at the office.

Barry County Property Records

The Barry County Register of Deeds maintains all real property documents including deeds, mortgages, liens, land contracts, plats, and surveys. The office was established as a constitutional office in 1835, giving Barry County one of the longer continuous property record histories in the state. Online access is available through Tapestry (pay-per-search) and Laredo (subscription-based), both managed through the county website at barrycounty.org.

Tapestry covers property index data from October 1985 and images from January 1892. You can search by last name, document number, recorded date, document type, or consideration amount. There is a $5 search fee per property through Tapestry, plus $1 per page for copies. Certified copies cost an extra $5. For in-person research, go to the Register of Deeds office during regular hours. Staff can help with historical deed searches from the physical books for pre-1892 records.

Birth records under 100 years old require proof of eligibility, such as being the person named, a parent, or legal representative.

FOIA and Public Records Access in Barry County
