The archive covers all land records from 1835 to the present. Document types include deeds, mortgages, liens, easements, plats, and land contracts. Online search is available with public terminals at the office as well.

Genesee County Circuit Court Public Records
Genesee County courts include the 7th Judicial Circuit Court, the 67th District Court, the Probate Court, and the Family Division. The Circuit Court is at 900 S Saginaw St in Flint. The main legal division number is (810) 257-3220. The District Court has multiple locations across the county.

The 7th Circuit is one of the busier circuit courts in Michigan given Genesee County's population. The Family Division handles divorce, custody, and child support cases. Records from the Family Division are generally public except for cases involving minors.

Vital Records in Genesee County
The Genesee County Clerk's Vital Records Division is at 1101 Beach St in Flint. Birth and death records go back to 1867. Marriage records are available from 1835 and divorce records from 1871. Fees are $15 for the first certified copy and $5 for each additional copy of the same record. In-person research is limited to Fridays from 9 AM to 4 PM and only six researchers are allowed at a time. Plan ahead. For online orders, the state MDHHS portal is at michigan.gov/mdhhs and charges $34 for the first state-issued certified copy.
FOIA Requests for Genesee County Public Records
Michigan's FOIA law at MCL 15.231 gives the public the right to request records from Genesee County government. The FOIA Coordinator for the county is Monaca Elston. Genesee County has 5 business days to respond to your request. Extensions of up to 10 additional days are permitted for complex or large requests. Fees are $0.10 per page for copies, and labor charges may apply. Exempt records under MCL 15.243 include personnel files, active investigations, and certain personal information. Denials can be appealed to the county administrator and then to circuit court.
